Sexual Assault & Forcible Confinement(Golden Cabs) - DC12-622

Over the last week several allegations involving sexual assault and forcible confinement by one or more employees of Golden Cabs are under investigation by the RCMP. There are two taxi companies in Dawson Creek and to date the investigation only involves Golden Cabs.  On Wednesday January 25, 2012, the Dawson Creek RCMP received a complaint that a 13 year old female was allegedly lured into a taxi and promised a free ride home. Instead the victim reported to police that she was locked inside the vehicle by the driver and sexually assaulted. The suspect in this case has yet to be positively identified.

As part of this investigation the Dawson Creek RCMP has identified several other victims of similar alleged incidents which span as far back as October 2011 in Dawson Creek. These incidents had not been previously reported to police; however, the victims have cooperated with the RCMP. In one case the suspect was identified and has been arrested for sexual assault and forcible confinement. Charges are pending against a 55 year old male.

As part of the investigation the RCMP have executed a search warrant at the office of Golden Cabs and are in the process of interviewing additional witnesses.

"This is a priority investigation and we are dedicating the resources necessary, along with working with our colleagues in Alberta, including Grand Prairie", says Staff Sergeant Milo MACDONALD who is in charge of the Dawson Creek Detachment. "We ask the public to call us with any information they may have".

To further the police criminal investigation, the Dawson Creek RCMP are requesting that if any person has information regarding any sexual assault, forcible confinement, or other illegal or irregular activity by a taxi driver please contact the Dawson Creek RCMP at 250-784-3700, Grand Prairie RCMP at 780-830-5734.
