Advisory - Safety Concern @ Rotary Park FSJ11-12453

The Fort St. John RCMP wish to urge parents and children who travel through Rotary Park (commonly known as Toboggan Hill park, near North Peace Secondary School) to exercise caution after an incident occurred at approximately 8 am this morning involving a youth being approached by an unknown male brandishing a weapon. The youth ran away from the suspect and began yelling in order to attract the attention of other people in the area. The youth, who was unharmed, was able to return to her residence and notify a parent, who immediately contacted the Police.
This is the second report of an incident in the last three weeks allegedly involving an unknown male approaching youths in the park. Police are actively investigating both incidents and have yet to determine if the two occurrences are related. In the meantime, Police are recommending that people travel in pairs or groups through the park and that they be aware of their surroundings at all times.
The male in this incident was described as,
- Male, approximately 5'6, medium build, Cacausian, possibly in his mid to late teens wearing a hooded sweater and a back pack.
Police are asking that anyone who may have information relating to this matter or any other Criminal matter to call them directly or through Crime Stoppers.
